Exporting store products from Wix and Squarespace: what the CSV leaves out
Unlike blogs, store products do have an export on both Wix and Squarespace. It is a CSV, and it is the only copy of your catalogue you will get. What matters is what is not in it. Everything below comes from the two builders' own help pages, read on 31 October 2026.
Where the button is
- Wix: Store Products → More Actions → Import → Export Products (Wix help). You can also tick products and use More Actions → Export to take a selection.
- Squarespace: the Products panel → Export all (Squarespace help). Some third-party guides point to Settings → Advanced → Import/Export; menus differ by site version, so go by what your dashboard shows.
What the file does not carry
- Digital products. Wix: “Importing files containing digital products is currently not supported.” Squarespace: “You can't import download products.” Only physical and service products (Squarespace) move cleanly. Download the files themselves from the dashboard before you cancel.
- Images stay where they are. Squarespace: “It's not possible to upload images from your hard drive into this .csv.” The file holds image URLs, and after an import into Squarespace it becomes the host. Wix writes media IDs and URLs, one row per image, GIF or video. If the CSV goes to another platform, those URLs still point at the old site, so save the images while the store is alive.
- Customers and subscriptions. Squarespace: “You can't import customers” and “You can't move customer subscriptions between Squarespace sites.” Print-on-demand products lose their link to the fulfilment service.
- Featured and variant images. Squarespace says imported products won't have a set featured image or variant images; you add them by hand.
- Non-Latin text and symbols. Wix warns that special characters such as ™ and ® display incorrectly after import, and that Japanese, Hindi or Arabic text may not upload correctly; it suggests re-saving through Google Sheets as CSV.
Size limits
Wix: up to 15 MB and 10,000 rows per file, and each product takes several rows (the product, one per image, one per variant), so the real product count is lower; “only the first 10K rows will be imported.” Squarespace: up to 10,000 products and 250 variants per product on version 7.1, and 200 products on version 7.0. Squarespace also states you can't schedule products with an import, only publish or hide them.
It is a one-time copy
Squarespace is explicit that later changes to the original store or the CSV don't sync. Treat the export as the end of the old store, not a bridge. Do it last, after the final orders, stock counts and price changes.
What nobody mentions: the product URLs
Product pages are indexed and linked from elsewhere, and a CSV carries no redirects. On Wix they live under /product-page/<slug>; on Squarespace under /shop/p/<id>/<slug> or a store page of your choosing. After the move they 404 unless you map them. See the Wix URLs your redirect map forgets.
Checklist before you close the store
- Export the product CSV last, after the final stock and price edits.
- Download digital files separately; no CSV includes them.
- Save every product image to disk; the CSV only has links to them.
- Export orders and customers from their own screens if you need them; the product file has neither.
- Check the CSV opens correctly if names or descriptions are not in Latin script.
- Build the redirect list for old product URLs before you switch the domain.
Decamp doesn't export products. It counts them in the free inventory and moves the posts, pages and images around them; for the catalogue, use the builder's CSV as above. See Squarespace export or Wix to WordPress.
