Guide · Squarespace → WordPress

Squarespace to WordPress, images included

Squarespace does have a WordPress export, and its limits are spelled out in its own help pages: only one blog page exports, album, index, portfolio and several other page types don't, video blocks are dropped, and images come across as links. Squarespace warns that those image links stop working after you cancel your site.

If you're moving to self-hosted WordPress, that last point is the dangerous one: the import looks fine until the subscription ends and every picture disappears. Decamp reads your published site instead and writes one WordPress file with every blog and your regular pages, and it puts the image files in the ZIP so WordPress copies them into your own media library.

Free inventory and 3-post preview. One payment per site when you download.

1. Export with Decamp

Paste your site address. The free inventory counts posts in every blog, your pages and images, and lists what won't move (store products, events, portfolio items).

Prove the site is yours: add the meta tag Decamp shows under Settings → Developer Tools → Code Injection → Header and save (or paste the code into a text block on your homepage).

Check the free preview, pay once and download the ZIP. Do this before you cancel Squarespace: Decamp reads the live site.

2. Import into WordPress

Tools → Import → WordPress → Run Importer and upload wordpress/wordpress-import.xml.

Tick “Download and import file attachments”. WordPress downloads each image into its media library and rewrites the links in your posts, so nothing depends on Squarespace afterwards.

Posts from every blog arrive in the same file, with their categories, tags, authors and dates.

3. Redirects, then cancel

Squarespace posts live at /blog-name/post-slug. Install the Redirection plugin and import redirects/wordpress-redirection-plugin.csv so old links and Google results keep working.

Point your domain at the new host, check a few posts and images, and only then cancel the Squarespace subscription.

Redirect files included: Redirection plugin CSV · .htaccess · Nginx. Old links and Google results keep working, and our free redirect checker confirms every one after the move.

Questions

Does my Squarespace design come across?
No export can do that. You get the content clean (text, headings, lists, images, galleries, YouTube videos, buttons as links), ready for a WordPress theme.

What about my store?
Products aren't exported by Decamp. Squarespace can export products as a CSV from Commerce → Inventory, which WooCommerce can import.

My site has already expired.
Decamp needs the site to be published. Squarespace says reactivating an expired subscription may bring the content back, depending on how long ago it expired.
